60622 and 60610 both to be split into new ZIP Codes. All addresses in ZIP Code 60622 east of N. Ashland Avenue will be assigned to a new 60642 ZIP Code. Addresses on N. Ashland Avenue will remain in the 60622 ZIP Code. [MAP] In addition, all addresses in ZIP Code 60610 on W. Chicago Avenue and south of W. Chicago Avenue will be assigned to the 60654 ZIP Code. Customers can start using their new ZIP Code on July 1 2008. The Chicago District will continue to deliver mail addressed to the old ZIP Codes for one year after the change goes into effect, through July 1, 2009. Major business mailers, including banks, utilities and magazine publishers, will automatically be notified of the change. Customers are asked to notify relatives, friends and other personal correspondents of their new ZIP Code. Customers can continue to use their current envelopes, letterhead and stationery with their old ZIP Code since the district will still deliver mail with the old ZIP Code on it for the next year. USPS advises customers who need to get new stationery to put their new ZIP Code on it. The Wicker Park Station will serve both 60622 and 60642. The Fort Dearborn Station will serve both 60610 and 60654. Customers whose ZIP Code is changing are being notified by letter during the week of April 21. A 60622/60642 and 60610/60654 map will be on display at the respective Post Offices. Questions about the changes should be directed to the Chicago District Address Management Systems department at 312-983-8332. |

Permanent Station Manager (postmaster) still not selected for the Roberto Clemente station (60647). Position vacant since August 2007. 60647 has been without a regular Station Manager since August 2007 (and the official retirement of the previous manager in October 2007). USPS managers announced on February 20 that a selection had finally been made but in April retracted that statement. Newly appointed Area 2 manager Richard Osborne is also serving as acting manager at Clemente Station until further notice. Mr. Osborne advised the CAC that the search has been reopened and publicized throughout USPS once again. He stated that recent procedural changes and other improvements at Roberto Clemente Station should help attract a qualified candidate. Roberto Clemente Station is located at 2339 N. California Avenue, 60647. The Customer Care phone is 312-351-4957. |

Customers can improve their mail delivery with some simple "Do's and Don'ts". A common sense "Helpful Hints" checklist to encourage customers to remove many of the barriers to good mail delivery has been jointly developed by the staff of 1st Ward Alderman Manny Flores and USPS Chicago District Manager/Postmaster Gloria E. Tyson. That list is posted here for customer feedback. |

Wicker Park Station customer complaints rising at 60622. Click here to view a map of recent 60622 complaints. Wicker Park Station (60622/60642) Manager Mr. Carlos Johnson reports that the recent increase in customer complaints there is related to a consolidation of some routes which led to more senior carriers "bidding" for other routes, thereby "bumping" carriers already familar with those routes. He estimated that the resulting ripple effect caused reassignments in 95% of the 60622 routes in early 2008. Newly assigned, substitute and rookie carriers are the cause of most misdelivered mail and late deliveries. He also explained that after reorganizing routes and obtaining vehicles for 49 of the 56 newly consolidated routes that remain, most carriers are now able to "case" (sort) their own letters and carry their own packages which should reduce confusion over final responsibility for accuracy. In addition, 2 of the 4 supervisory positions at Wicker Park Station are vacant as of April 2008. Mr. Johnson indicated that most of the complaints had been presented to him by the CAC or the Alderman's office prior to the April 16 CAC meeting and that many had already been resolved. Mr. Johnson can be reached at 773-278-4575 or by eMail at Carlos.B.Johnson@usps.gov. Ms. Kelly Wells, the 60622/60642 Customer Care rep, can be reached at 312-505-2336. Other 60622 customer complaints include apparent improper parking by USPS employees which is causing problems for residents living near the Post Office building. Mr. Johnson pledged to investigate that issue and to report back to the Alderman's office on the resolution. Alderman Flores' 1st Ward office is working with Mr. Johnson to try to find scarce on-street permits or reasonably-priced off-street parking slots for the employees. |
