White Trash Blues - Cliffhanger

Episode 7

FADE IN

When we last left Jolene she had gotten a call from her aunt Nonna. DP and Jolene have always believed that Nonna, who out of family loyalty has allowed them to live there rent-free, legally owns their trailer. The phone call has shattered their world.

Nonna has just revealed that her sister Goomar is the actual owner.

Goomar, whom Jolene barely knows and DP has never met, is the local Herbsoflife® franchisee and somewhat of a wealthy recluse. She is also Radish’s ex-girlfriend. Almost no one in town has met her current boyfriend Tony, but everyone is very impressed with their new white Sierra Denali pickup with a power operated bed cover and their shiny 22-foot luxury bass boat. They obviously have a great deal of money available.

Jolene and DP are initially stunned, then angry over the long deception perpetrated by a close family member in whom they have had complete trust. Now, in addition to their sense of betrayal and outrage, they further discover that the reason Nonna has finally broken her silence on the title to the trailer may almost be worse. She has tearfully told Jolene that Goomar and Tony have disappeared in a panic and all of their assets have been seized.

This, of course, includes the title to the trailer.

DP, Jolene, Radish and Mona gather at Maf’s to discuss the next move. Suddenly a news flash appears on the bar’s giant screen TV. As the culmination of a multi-year FDA investigation into Goomar’s Herbsoflife® business, she and Tony have been charged with 42 counts of nutritional conspiracy and have made a run for it. The FDA agents who came to their office at the back of Nonna’s bowling alley gave chase onto the mountain road south of town with tragic results.

With Goomar apparently at the wheel and the beautiful bass boat “Miss 2coasts Girl” dragging along behind, they have been run off the road during a high-speed chase while fleeing the feds. As a TV station chopper hovers above the scene, their fate is uncertain. So is the fate of DP and Jolene’s trailer.

Fearing the worst for the future of their home, Jolene rushes over to the Nonna Bowl to confront her aunt about the years of mendacity. DP, Radish and Mona decide to stay at the bar where, out of sympathy, Maf has just served a round of boilermakers on the house.

As the episode ends Jolene is berating Nonna for her lies while the crushed woman tries to explain that she hid the truth out of love.

No one has asked about the fate of Tony and Goomar. The “Miss 2coasts Girl” is the only member of the fleeing group actually known to be safe. And it will probably be confiscated by the FDA agents.
